Murray Trust Bank
I start with a needs analysis to uncover the root cause of the issue and identify the most effective training solution. This is discussed in a kickoff meeting with stakeholders.
I create a design document with course goals and topics, followed by a detailed storyboard to align with stakeholders and emphasize real-world scenarios. I then develop the course using the storyboard and refine it through feedback cycles.
The course is rolled out to employees using the company’s learning management system (LMS) or another platform. I ensure all technical aspects are functioning properly and provide any necessary support to facilitate a smooth launch.
I measure learning outcomes with assessments (Kirkpatrick Levels 2 and 3) and track on-the-job behavior changes to confirm effectiveness.
The project started with a visual outline in Mural, where I mapped out both the instructional flow and the course's user interface (UI) and user experience (UX). My goal was to design an eLearning course that felt professional and intuitive for clients, breaking away from the traditional Storyline look. Instead, I envisioned it blending seamlessly into a bank’s website, with a clean, modern design that enhanced engagement and usability.
After finalizing the visual outline, I transitioned to drafting a high-level design document that outlined the course's overall structure and flow. This included planning the branching scenarios, identifying key decision points, and mapping custom feedback for various learner choices. As a client-facing course, I ensured it featured interactive elements and thoughtful design touches to maintain a polished, professional appearance while keeping it engaging and instructionally effective.
Given the complexity of the branching scenarios I storyboarded and my goal to personalize the learning experience using JavaScript and variables, I chose to develop the course in Articulate Storyline. I sourced, designed, and edited all course graphics using stock images and PowerPoint shapes, ensuring consistency with the course’s visual style. JavaScript played a key role in enhancing interactivity and making the experience more dynamic for learners.
Creating the financial literacy course was such a rewarding learning experience. One of the biggest challenges was working with JavaScript to add interactive, personalized features. It took a lot of troubleshooting and patience to get everything running smoothly. Another hurdle was organizing the microcourse lessons. I had to make sure the content was broken down into manageable chunks—engaging and easy to digest—without overwhelming the learner. Sticking to the time allotments was also critical, so I had to be intentional about prioritizing key takeaways.
Additionally, if this course were implemented in a real-world setting, I would have ensured that the menu remained restricted to prevent learners from skipping directly to the completion certificate without finishing the modules. However, since this is a demo project, I kept the menu open to allow reviewers to explore all aspects of the course freely. This decision balanced showcasing the course’s functionality with maintaining a user-focused approach for evaluation.
All in all, this project taught me the importance of balancing technical precision, thoughtful content design, and user experience to create something impactful.
